Ten Things...

1. Exercise balls hurt!

All I did was sit on it and wiggle around a bit, but this morning, I laid there... I did not want to get up I was sooo stiff. I stretched for about 30 minutes before I got up.

2. Then for some reason I thought... today, I will try just paracetamol (Tylenol) instead of paracetamol (with codeine) that I was prescribed (see previous post).

I was achy and moody ALL day! I did break down and take one at 3:30, but I almost made it all day!

3. I worked practically a whole day before having to come home and relax. (11-5)

4. My dad sent me another email on one of his purchases... He said he figured I needed something to blog about.

I mean, everyone needs mannequin arms, right? Especially when they are only $2!

4. I like this picture from when I was in Rome earlier this month.

5. I absolutely LOVE Britain's Got Talent, well, they are doing Tay's Got Talent. I am looking for someone (in Scotland) with talent so I can watch them perform. I am definitely going to the final!

6. I want a new D-SLR camera and have been shopping for MONTHS, but haven't picked one out or spent the money for one yet.

7. My laptop won't start unless you pick it up, open the CD drive, close the drive and set it down right side first. Yesterday, the screen blacked out for a few minutes, but I talked it back to life. I am thinking of getting a Gateway!

8. I check my email WAY too much and when I get a new one, I usually feel like I shouldn't email straight back, but if I don't, then I forget and don't email back.

9. When you are in pain, it makes you very homesick (and moody). After two weeks, I am feeling MUCH better! However, I realized that I have great friends and my flatmate even put my sock on for me! Now, that is love! :)

10. I am really excited for my visitors this summer! I have already started making plans!

FLAT

On my way to work, I noticed something wasn't right about my car...

(Image from http://lockportslugline.wordpress.com/2008/05/28/apologies/)

Let's look at the positive...

1. I didn't have to be at work.
2. It wasn't raining and the weather was mild.
3. I have amazing friends who came to the rescue. (Thanks Ry and friend!)
4. My spare tire was good.
5. The owner's manual was equip with photo diagrams.
6. I had a jack and a tire iron.
7. I had some baby wipes in my car so we could wash our hands after.

So it was a slight set back, but I guess...

Always an Adventure with Amy, right? ;)

My Month in a NUTSHELL... More to come (if I feel like it)

March 24th to March 27th FLORENCE, Italy - AMAZING!

March 27th to April 1st ROME, Italy - DOUBLE AMAZING!!

April 4th - Scottish Universities All-Star basketball training session, where during practice I injured my back, the muscles just tensed up and it was sore.

April 6th to April 9th - DURHAM, England, British Universities Home Nations Tournament, our Universities Team played the Universities teams of Wales, N. Ireland, and England. Because of my back, I didn't play much, but we creamed Wales and N. Ireland, and lost to England by about 12 points.

April 10 to April 12th - still some back pain but getting MUCH better...

April 13th - most of the day was ok, but back still giving some problems, so I went home and stretched. Did something to aggravate the Sciatic nerve.

That evening, laid in AGONY unable to sleep.

April 14th - Called my flatmate (Lindesay) at 6 AM we called an emergency service who told me to take pain killers (which I had and didn't work)

8:15 AM called my doctor, who got me an appointment at 9:35. Lindesay helped encourage me to get up, I was so lightheaded and thought I would pass out because of the pain. I got in her car and laid the seat down. She went in, told them I was there, and came back out to the car when they were ready for me and got me. I shuffled in. The Dr was worried, prescribed pain killers, anti-inflammatories, and muscle relaxers. We rescheduled an appointment a week later.

April 14th to April 17th - laid in bed with the pain slowly getting better and better. I didn't get up, much. The first day, Lindesay came home from work and checked on me, fed me, gave me my meds, and I have become more and more independent. Although, a lunch time decision to make scrambled eggs one day almost led to a disaster... but I laid on the couch while they were cooking, so no HUGE disasters!

I did have a field trip to the grocery store on Thursday, Lindesay drove and I walked around slowly... I just needed to get out of the house!!

April 17th - A physical therapist appointment, I was told to either lay down or stand up, but not sit...

April 20th - back to the Dr. She gave me another dose of meds and assigned me another physio appointment.

A few more days in bed...

April 23rd - I went to work and lasted 45 minutes, and had another physio appointment, she gave me exercises and a book called "The Back Book". In it, it described two types of people with back injuries, the copers and the avoiders. I guess it is good to cope with the pain, do what you can and hopefully it heals itself. It made me cry thinking I was an avoider because I laid in bed for a week, but my flatmate assured me that I did cope, I was showering and getting ready for the day (toward the end of the week!) After the physio, I came home, cleaned my flat and baked cookies... How is that for COPING!!!

Today I was at work for about 4 hours, and then decided to rest. I have a big job interview tomorrow and need my strength.

So I guess this wasn't the nutshell it was supposed to be, but I really want to write about Rome and Florence, so expect that soon (I hope).

Side notes
1. Sciatic nerve pain is THE most painful thing I have EVER experienced.
2. I was grateful for my friends who stopped by even just to visit. It made the days not so long and made me realize I was cared about.
3. My upper thigh and my little toes on my right leg are still numb with no feeling... VERY ODD. I am hoping that with time, the feeling comes back.
4. At the physio, I couldn't even do a calf raise with my right leg. The muscles just wouldn't move... weird!!
5. When you hurt your back, they ask you a million times in all sorts of ways "How your water works are?" (If you know what I mean...)
6. If you have back pain, try to get help so you can get exercises to strengthen it the right way. Don't wait until something serious happens!!

10 Reasons my Dad Cracks me Up and I Love Him!

1) He sends me KSL ads like this one:

free
Llama
Lehi, UT 84043 - Jan 29, 2009
I have a llama that I'm trying to get rid of. It's male, brown and white, 2 1/2 years old. Come get it.

2) He gets sooo excited when he gets a "steal of a deal" Like this one:

In fact with this one, he wanted to drive it around the neighborhood (a 10 mile radius) so everyone could see his new purchase. My mom wouldn't let him. :)

3) Even though he will complain about Christmas shopping, he goes practically every day in December. This year was the first that he admitted that he likes to watch the people scramble around for last minute items. In fact, on Christmas Eve him and I were wandering through Walmart just watching people! Haha! :)

4) At the drop of a snowflake, he fires up his tractor or bull dozer or whatever BIG snow pushing equipment he has for the year and pushes the snow!

5) Every time you point a camera his way, he pulls a funny face! To this day, I don't know if there has ever been a "normal" picture of my dad!

6) He is a big tease! He will stick his finger in your ear when he walks past you, he will pull on your ear, tug your hair... anything to get a little rise. Then he will just grin when you look at him.

7) He is a very good foosball player, and when he beats you (and he usually does, unless you are Jackie) He yells "I'M THE GREATEST FOOSBALL PLAYER IN THE WORLD". It is soo funny!

8) He is such a hard worker, in the summer he will work all day and then be out in the garden at night. My mom knows to have dinner ready when he gets home, or he won't have time to eat! :)

9) He loves to drive to new places and explore!

10) He loves his family, and would do anything for each of his kids!

Dad, I love you very much!
