Holiday Travel

For those who know me, know I am an experienced traveler. Since I travel (or used to travel) so much, I know random tips and tricks to get great flight deals. However, this ability, along with my inability to make a decision, sometimes causes problems...

Tim decided that he was going to come home with me for Thanksgiving, so we started looking at tickets. It took ages to decide the day that was convenient for him, then which airport (a choice between 7 or 8), but we found some great tickets! We realized that if we bought two one ways, we could pick a better schedule. So he bought our tickets to Utah. A few days later, probably a week or more, he reminded me that we didn't have return tickets. Whoops!

Looking up a return ticket, we found them to be $380 each, which was over $140 more (each) than when we first found them. So again, I went searching. I found tickets from Utah to a random Midwest airport for $135 each. (That's over $245 (each) in savings!) So I looked up car rentals ($125) and how far the drive (3.5 hours) and decided that this was a better idea!

So yesterday, I bought Tim a ticket ($135), but when I went to buy mine, the price jumped to $179... Dang it! So after waiting all day, I finally caved and bought my ticket.

I came into work today and wondered if I had made the right decision. So I get on kayak.com and loo, and the price of the exact ticket had gone down to $135 again! A little defeated, I called Delta, figuring that this happens all of the time and they wouldn't be able to do anything, but... she did! The woman refunded my ticket and bought me another one that was cheaper. She even booked us great seats!

Thanks Delta!

Hmmm, now do I start planning Christmas? or wait until the last minute again.
